DUNDEE CONTEMPORARY ARTS PRIZE WINNER 2018
boys on bikes become men in vans
A revenge depiction of the neighbourhood boys who used to yell at girls whilst riding BMX bikes. The title hints at the boy to adulthood 'honk' transition. Boys on Bikes are the past, present and future. They will shout at anyone and most certainly at you.
Though bothersome, obscene and unnerving these characters possess a legendary status that has been carried through the ages. This combination of boy and bike is fused confidence like no other. Excelling especially in the delivery of one liners, we must credit their creativity and vision.
Unwelcome to the common gallery, their presence is ridiculous. Wobbly ceramic faces, my brothers old trackies. A gnarly, wonky swing bar frame as the bulky accessory. As for the boys, what’s next? Men in Vans.
